There are many reasons why physical activity is good for your body. Its not just the obvious things like having a healthy heart and strengthening your joints and bones. Exercise for mental health is very beneficial for your mental health and wellbeing.
We desperately need to change the way we view physical activity in the UK. Some assume its just to lose weight or just something we ‘should do’ for our health. However, we need to look at exercise as something that we do because we personally value its positive benefits to our wellbeing.
Mental health week takes place in May this year from the 13th – 19th. We feel it needs to become more widely apparent how many benefits exercise can have on your mental health.
Activity is a magic drug
If you’ve had a bad day at work, trouble at home, worrying about finances or family matters, how easy is it to turn to junk food, chocolate or alcohol as a comfort tonic. We’ve all done it.
Food is the most used anxiety drug. Exercise is the most underutilized anti-depressant. Exercise releases endorphins, the ‘happy drug’ and best of all its all FREE and NATURAL and no queueing at the Pharmacy to collect it! Energy creates energy. If you’re feeling lethargic then get up and get moving. You’ll be surprised how quickly you feel better.
Not sure where to start?
You just need to get moving, so maybe start with a walk. Put down the TV remote and go get yourself some fresh air! Walk round the block, wander through the park or even just get off the bus or train one stop early on the way to work.
Similarly, if you’re lucky enough to live near the coast or the Lakes then what could be more refreshing than a hillside climb or a coastal beach walk. Take in the beauty of our natural surroundings on your door-step.“It is exercise alone that supports the spirits, and keeps the mind in vigour.” Marcus Tullius Cicero
With the UK weather being so unpredictable of late, yep we appreciate you can’t always guarantee a dry spell to take in some fresh air. As a result you may not fancy venturing out the front door. However, never fear because at 3-1-5 Health Club we have something to offer everyone across a variety of levels of intensity and choice.
There is no need to feel anxious about coming into our family friendly environment. We have beginners classes in a fully equipped fitness suite. You can choose to have a group induction or 1-1 with a Fitness Professional to get you started. Alternatively, you might want to start with a dip in one of our three swimming pools followed by a relaxing sauna or steam.
Something for everyone.
Prefer a group environment? Then no worries there either, try one of our group fitness classes in our large air conditioned studios. We house classes from the likes of gentle pilates to up-beat spin or strengthen and tone with body pump. Furthermore, exercising with like-minded people is full of social benefits and encourages motivation.
Above all, there is no doubt at 3-1-5 we have something for everyone and best of all we will be with you every step of the way!
