Hike In The Lakes – X Force Academy

On Saturday 14th July, 26 people and 3 dogs took a hike to Blencathra.Blencathra Hike in the lakes 315 Health Club

The hike was organised by X-Force Academy member Tamara Hall. The Academy is a results based small group training club for like minded individuals within 3-1-5 Health club. A club within a club. Socials have become an important part of the Academy’s driven group.

Here Tamara tells us all about the route and the event.

‘The 15km circular hike started in Mungrisedale nr Keswick.  The first part of the hike was a steep ascent up Southern Fell which is 510m above sea level.  The path was thick with bracken but we all made our way through and it took around 45 mins.  Once everyone had re grouped and caught their breath we made our way over the top and along the brook to Steeles Tarn.Uphill Hike in the lakes 315 Health club

At the Tarn we refuelled and refreshed with lunch and a nice swim. Lunch and swim 315 Health ClubSwim in the Lake 315 Health Club The water was pretty cold which was great for giving the muscles a bit of therapy before the next steep ascent to the summit of Blencathra.

There were 2 route choices to the summit, a normal public footpath or grade 1 scramble along the exposed ridge of Sharp Edge. 

We all made it up safely and met at the Blencathra 838m Trig Point 838m above sea level.

Now all the hard work was complete we made our way across the top and down a steady decent to the pub for a well deserved beer!
