Why National Fitness Day Matters at 3-1-5

By Sean Thornton
If you’ve ever walked into 3-1-5 on National Fitness Day, you’ll know it’s not just another date in the diary. It’s a celebration. It’s a reminder. And it’s a moment to pause and reflect on what fitness truly means—not as a chore or a challenge, but as a powerful act of self-belief.
This year, National Fitness Day falls on Wednesday 24th September. For us, it’s a chance to spotlight something we hold close to our hearts: the idea that fitness is not powered by equipment or aesthetics, but by people. Real people, with real stories, real setbacks, and real strength.
That’s why our theme this year is simple but powerful: “Powered by YOU – Elevated at 3-1-5.”
A Day to Celebrate Every Step of the Journey
I’ve worked in this industry for a long time, and I can honestly say the most inspiring thing isn’t watching someone lift heavy weights or run marathons. It’s seeing someone show up after a tough week. It’s watching a member walk through the doors for the first time in months. It’s hearing laughter echoing from a Young at Heart class or a parent cheering as their child swims unaided for the first time.
That’s the magic of National Fitness Day. It’s not about personal bests—it’s about personal breakthroughs.
At 3-1-5, we go all-in for this day. The energy in the building is electric from the moment we open our doors. Our teams—from coaches and PTs to front-of-house legends—are fully engaged, offering everything from quick tours to high-fives and words of encouragement. It’s not about signing people up. It’s about inviting them in. To move, to reset, to connect.

More Than a Gym—A Community
We often talk about 3-1-5 being more than a gym, and I mean that in the truest sense. It’s a third space—somewhere between work and home—that belongs entirely to you. Whether you’re sweating it out in a SHOX session, floating in Re:Set Recovery, or grabbing a shake in Vitality Café, you’re part of something bigger here.
On National Fitness Day, that sense of community shines brighter than ever.
We’ll be showcasing stories from members who’ve overcome injury, illness, or isolation. We’ll be inviting people to share what powers them—on our “Powered By…” wall, on social media, and in conversation. You’ll hear from people just like you: a mum juggling family and fitness, a retiree smashing strength goals, or a young swimmer making waves in Stingrays.
Powered by Every Generation
What really stands out to me is the diversity of movement we see on this day. Kids taking on a mini Hyrox circuit. Teens trying the gym for the first time. Parents joining their kids in a family workout. Over-60s stretching and smiling through Pilates. Every generation, every goal, every story—it all comes together under one roof.
And that’s what we’re really celebrating. Not perfection. Not comparison. But progress, connection, and courage.

Taking the First Step
Every September, I’m reminded that fitness doesn’t start with fancy kit or the perfect plan. It starts with a decision. A choice to show up. To move your body. To say yes to your health.
That’s why National Fitness Day matters.
Because for many, it’s the nudge they need to begin—or begin again. It’s a chance to try something new without pressure. It’s a moment to say, “This is for me.”
And at 3-1-5, we’ll be here to welcome you with open arms.
Let’s Move, Together
So whether you’re a regular or you’ve been meaning to get started, make a date with yourself this 24th September. Come along. Bring a friend. Try a session, a stretch, a swim, or a chat. We’re opening the doors wide and shining a light on what movement can really do—not just for your body, but for your mood, your confidence, and your life.
Because when you feel better, you do better. And we believe that’s something worth celebrating.
This National Fitness Day, let’s remind ourselves: it’s not about how far you go—it’s that you decided to go at all.
We’ll be here, cheering you on.
