DW Gym Morecambe Closure
A sad loss to the community of Morecambe
29th October 2020 was another sad day in the Fitness World. Local fitness facility DW Gym Morecambe (recently overtaken by Everlast) was forced to close its doors for good.
A lot of people may see other gyms as competitiors but we’ve always seen them as ‘colleagues’.
Health Clubs are a collective a place of sanctuary, encouragement and wellbeing for members. Often served with people with a passion for changing peoples’ lives it’s a really sad loss to the community of Morecambe.
In these trying times facilities are so important, more so now than ever to people’s health and wellbeing, improving immunity against Covid and many other viruses and illnesses.
DW Sports had many gyms and retail sites in the North West area. During the first lockdown they appointed insolvency specialists after losing significant income.
In August several of the DW sites were sold out to Everlast and the facility was set to re-open. However the plan was short lived and in October the following e-mail was sent to members:
“Throughout the past two months, our priority has been to try to renegotiate rents with landlord, as it was immediately apparent that your Morecambe fitness club would not be sustainable without us doing so. The importance of the negotiation was to allow job security and provide a long term future for the club. Regrettably, we have been unsuccessful in our discussions with the landlord, which means keeping Morecambe open is no longer financially viable”.
